Desktop computer and laptop that two familiar names. Most of them already understand and understand the object in question.
But what about other gadgets such as notebooks, netbooks, ultrabooks, Chromebooks, tablets, hybrids, and palmtops?
If you don’t know and are curious about what it means, I’ll try to explain the meaning one by one.
Definition of desktop computer
Desktop language comes from two words: desk and top. Desk means table, while top means top. So a desktop is a computer whose use is on a table. Why should it be on the table? Because it’s big and weighs pretty well.
Generally, this type of desktop computer is called a PC (Personal Computer). Used on the table because it consists of various parts. Among other things, the monitor screen, the main components (CPU, motherboard, VGA, etc.) as well as a separate keyboard and mouse, in order to function properly you must connect them with cables.
Definition of laptop
Linguistically, the laptop also consists of two words, namely lap, and top. Lap means lap, while the top is top. So the notion of a laptop is a computer whose use we can put on our lap.
Laptops are regeneration of desktop computers. The shape of the design is simpler and smaller. The design, starting from the screen, engine, and keyboard is integrated into the body. In addition to being lightweight, laptops also have a battery so that they move.
Actually, there are two other types out there that look the same as laptops. The names are notebooks and netbooks. If you want to know in more detail, yesterday I discussed at length in a previous article entitled Differences between laptops, notebooks, and netbooks.
What is Ultrabook?
In general, the difference between laptops, notebooks, and netbooks lies in the size, specifications, and components: Laptops are the most complete but thick because they have a DVD-ROM; Notebook specifications are almost equivalent to laptops but thinner (no DVD-ROM); While the netbook is the smallest size as well as the lowest specifications.
Then, what about ultrabooks? In plain view, an ultrabook looks like a notebook: between the parts of one with the other and can be folded. But ultrabook is the next version. The most prominent thing about this type is its very thin shape.
Even though they are thin, they designed the ultrabooks in such a way that they not only have high specs but also perform well (above laptop speed; battery life as durable as netbooks). Oh yes, most ultrabooks don’t have a DVD-ROM either.
Definition of tablet PC
Tablet PC is one type of computer whose design is very simple. At first glance, it looks like just a screen, without a physical keyboard, and when you need to type you can use the touchscreen. Such a shape makes a tablet PC like a jumbo smartphone.
Tablet PCs are the same size as netbooks, ranging from 7-to 12 inches. Even so, tablet PCs are still classified as computers, not smartphones. Why? Because after all this gadget uses an operating system like any other computer, not a smartphone OS.
Definition of hybrid
Tablet PCs don’t have a physical keyboard or just a screen. For some people, typing on a tablet doesn’t get any easier. But fortunately, computer manufacturers are diligent in innovating. The result created a gadget that can be used as a tablet and notebook/netbook at the same time.
It’s called a hybrid. This type of gadget can be attached/connected to a physical keyboard so that it looks like a notebook/netbook. However, at other times if you want to use it as a tablet is also not a problem. Just take it off or just remove the keyboard.
Being able to attach and remove like that indicates that the main components of this type of computer are located behind the monitor screen. If it’s under the keyboard like a notebook in general, it certainly won’t work when used as a tablet PC.
What is Chromebook?
From the name alone we can guess that the Chromebook is a portable computer from Google that specifically uses Chrome OS. What Operating System is it? It is a browser-based operating system.
The shape is indeed like a notebook/ultrabook. But if you have to compare, the main advantage of a Chromebook is in terms of booting: it only takes less than 10 seconds to be able to enter the desktop display. In addition, users can also get a lot of internet services and most of them are free.
Definition of palmtop
You could say palmtop is an old-school thing. However, in its time it was so expensive that only the rich could own it. When compared with current technology, it is clear that the palmtop specifications are very low. It also looks more like a cellphone at the time when Nokia was still victorious.
Even so, make no mistake. Palmtop is a computer class because it can run the Windows XP operating system. Great isn’t it?
