A four year MEng meets all the academic standards for Chartered Engineer status. Robotics, autonomous vehicles, IoT and AI are just a few of the future facing industries that require both hardware skills and software programming. You will learn both of these skills when studying Electronics and Computer Engineering with us. You can choose which module to study from the available options for this component. There may be limited opportunities to continue on the course/be eligible for the qualification if you fail. We understand that deciding where and what to study is a very important decision for you.
For international students, we may increase fees for each subsequent year of study but such increases will be no more than 5% above inflation. Alongside this, you will be able to choose from optional modules such as web technologies, system and network security, website design and construction, digital signal processing, and real-time and embedded systems. Study Abroad and the Year in Industry are subject to students meeting minimum academic requirements.
Accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology, licensed by the Engineering Council, for the purpose of partially meeting the educational requirements for a Chartered Engineer. To get the most out of online resources, you’ll need regular access to a computer with a microphone and camera, and a reliable internet connection. This will also prepare you to learn online full time should it become necessary.
Fees are assessed based on your country of domicile, with students domiciled in the EU charged international fees. If you are unsure, find out more about how your fee status is assessed. If you are studying full-time, you should expect the workload to be similar to a full-time job. For part-time students, this will reduce in proportion with the number of courses you are studying.
Ability to apply management techniques to the planning, resource allocation and execution of a design project and evaluate outcomes . Ability to design hardware or software systems to fulfil a product specification and devise tests to appraise performance. Ability to investigate and define a problem and identify constraints including cost drivers, economic, environmental, health and safety and risk assessment issues largely by undertaking student led individual and group project work. Enable students to satisfy the educational requirements of the IET for C.

You can view how each module is assessed within our ‘What you will study’ section. Students are assessed through a combination of assessment methods depending on the modules chosen. Appropriate qualifications such as an HNC, HND or Foundation Degree, with which you may be able to enter this degree in Year 2.
- Our modules are geared to meet the rigorous needs of the electronics industry.
- Please refer to the guidance below if you are applying for a postgraduate course at theBusiness School, or the School of Computer Science.
- We recognise that ability isn’t always demonstrated through a standard set of A Level or equivalent qualifications.
- In most cases you will study one module per component, but in some cases you may need to study more than one module.
- You will learn both of these skills whilst studying this course which will allow you to choose to start your career in a variety of industries.
This course is for anyone interested in computers, computing systems and software. Directed specialisms for modules and projects include IT infrastructure and cyber security and very large scale integration design, object orientated software and computer networks. With your final year project you will have the chance to work with research groups on latest advances and technology. The module provides students with the necessary background knowledge so that they can understand sensors and their applications. The module covers a selection of topics where information is acquired from sensors and subsequently electronically processed.

The aim is to enable the student to design a computer system using a hardware description language. Specific focus would be on field programmable gate array implementation, which includes synthesis, testing and verification. An additional aim for the student is to learn complex system design techniques including architecting for speed and area.
You’ll study subjects such as analogue and digital electronics, circuits and systems, computing, communications and the application of electrical energy. Throughout your course, you study a mix of compulsory and optional modules. Your first year lays the foundation for the rest of your studies and includes modules on programming, electronics, engineering design, digital technologies, and engineering mathematics. Our wide range of MEng and BEng undergraduate degree programmes provide you with a robust understanding of the principles of electronic and electrical engineering.
However, this profile may change from year to year depending on the demand for places. Selectors will also check that any specific entry requirements in terms of A-level subjects can be fulfilled. As a CE graduate you can not only design the physical hardware but also write the software to run it.
